When two people decide to come together in the binding and covenantal relationship of marriage, it is a time of great joy and celebration. Your wedding day is a special event in your life, and St. Bartholomew’s looks forward to meeting with you to discuss how we, as a Church community can help you start your new life together as a married couple.
In addition to the laws of the Province of Ontario, the solemnization of a marriage in an Anglican church is governed by the canons (or laws) of the Anglican Church of Canada. We require a minimum of 30 days notice between your date of application and the wedding day. All couples are required to undertake an approved marriage preparation program, and at least one of the couple must be a baptized Christian.
The wedding ceremony itself is to be based on the approved rites for the Anglican Church of Canada and the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa, and the Incumbent priest/Rector will preside or will make arrangements for supply clergy. It is possible to have other clergy involved, but only in consultation with the Incumbent priest/Rector.
St. Bartholomew’s is a beautiful, historic church with clergy, lay people and gifted musicians ready to journey with you. If you would like to discuss the possibility of having your wedding at St. Bartholomew’s, please arrange to speak with the Rector by contacting (613) 745-7834 ext. 3 or stbartsottawa@gmail.com
